How to Help:

Earthquake Assistance

Shelter & Rehabilitation: Unseasonably harsh winter weather is adding to the misery of quake victims. Dosti teams are working fast to build shelters and to help individuals and families gain the skills they need to continue building during the coming weeks and months.

  • $350 will pay for heated shelter with sanitation facilities for an entire family
  • $1000 will pay for a skill training center for carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing
  • $100 will help with purchase of tool kits for training center graduates

Education: Tens of thousands of children are still out of school, still without a safe place to gather, learn, and receive the special attention they need to deal with the traumas they’ve experienced.

  • $500 will pay for setting up a tent classroom
  • $50 a month will cover the expenses of one tent classroom
  • $20 will purchase educational toys and supplies for one classroom

Protection: Cramped quarters, employment loss, and overall despair heighten the risks of violence, abuse, and even abduction for unaccompanied women and children.

  • A donation of $1000 will pay for the set up on an entire tent community center, complete with training program for women and staffing by social workers.
  • $30 will cover the cost of providing a safe haven for an abused woman and her children for a month

Camp Management : Clean water and sanitation facilities are still in short supply.  The threat of water-borne disease, which can spread quickly through camps, is ever-present. Diarrhea and dysentery pose a continued risk in both spontaneous and organized tent villages.

  • A donation of $60 will pay for a water and sanitation facility for a small tent community.
  • $900 will pay for a new clean water well and pump for an entire village.
